The New Humanist Magazine has released “God Trumps”, a card game in parody of the Christian game, “Testament Trumps” (which was based on the traditional version, “Top Trumps”). Not to let Christians have the all the fun, Rationalists can now enjoy a game that features many different religious and non-religious characters from around the world rather than just focusing on the Christian genre. It seems only fair after all.

One of my favorite bloggers, Isaac J. Harris (The Atheist Geek), has recently written an article called, “Jehovah’s Witness To Atheist: How Doubting Witnesses Can Fade, Avoid Shunning”, which was published another favorite blogger’s website: Austin Cline for About.com.
I wanted to share it with you here because the article provides a valuable list of to-do items for anyone (Atheist or not), who is thinking of leaving the Watchtower Society of Jehovah’s Witnesses. I believe this advice applies to anyone who has found that they do not believe the teachings of …

I came across this excellent article written by Jacqueline Lavache at The Examiner.com. She really sums up the challenges faced by Atheists to “come out” and how it compares to the gay movement as well as other civil rights movements. I think she puts things into perspective very well explaining how being homosexual may be considered a sin by many, but atheists are an anathema. Not to downplay the hard battle being fought by the gay community but rather this article shows how atheists can take lessons from the movement. …

The Times: Societies worse off ‘when they have God on their side’

RELIGIOUS belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today. According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems. The study counters the view of believers that religion is necessary to

The Idea.
It all began in June of 2008 with an idea: when comedy writer Ariane Sherine saw an ad on a London bus featuring the Bible quote, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find Faith on this Earth?”. A website was listed underneath, and when Sherine visited the site she learned that, as a non-believer, she would be “condemned to everlasting separation from God and then spend all eternity in torment in hell”.
Sherine was unsettled due to the fact that a religion was able to publicly advertise that non-believers …

I thought this was too incredible not to discuss. It seems that Turkish courts have passed a ruling that bans all internet access to the website of Evolutionary Biologist Richard Dawkins (www.RichardDawkins.net). I hardly know what to say other than, “Thank goodness I live in a free, democratic country in which we still have freedom of speech!”

Ankara - Turkish internet users have been blocked via a court order from accessing the site of prominent British biologist Richard Dawkins after complaints from lawyers for Islamic creationist author …

Ask the right question…
I’ve been asked many times why I am an Atheist. Often that question is phrased as ‘why do you believe in Atheism?’ I first have to correct the question before I can answer it. As I will go on to explain, Atheism is not a belief in and of itself, rather it is a lack of belief in a god or divine creator. You see, Atheism is not organized; it is not a club or a group. Atheists are individuals who use their faculties of reason and …

“Maybe YOU evolved from monkeys… but I certainly didn’t!”
I’m sure that every Atheist has heard that before - and most Creationists have probably said it at one time or another.
First of all, let me say that it’s a common misconception that humans are the direct descendants of apes. Rather, evolution suggests that at some point in our very distant past our species shared a common ancestor.
But back to the point… I never understood why people are often so offended at the thought of having evolved from a lesser form, whether …

Recently I’ve been asked: “What religions did you study?” and “What made you become an Atheist?” The answers are: many and science, respectively.
Religious Study
I began many years ago by studying and/or looking into several Christian religions: the Catholic Church, the United Church, the Lutheran Church, the Pentecostal Church, to name a few - I really wanted to compare Christianity based on my knowledge and understanding of the bible. I wanted to consider Christian faiths and their individual perspectives. What I found in every case was that there were the typical …
