jwrorgAfter many months of collaborative effort across the online ex-JW community, it is my privilege to be able to present the first ever online magazine for doubting, exiting and former Jehovah’s Witnesses.

JWRecovery Magazine is a completely free, collaborative journal designed to provide easily accessible information and support assistance to ex Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world. It is our hope that the information contained within, in a new alternative format, will be another convenient touch-point for those seeking information and recovery help.

The editing staff and article contributors have come together on a non-profit basis, with no agenda other than to provide recovery assistance for other former Jehovah’s Witnesses. We are not an organized group nor professional counselors or therapists. Rather we aim to provide support to our fellows in an informal way by sharing stories, experiences and research.

For those of us who have come together to produce this magazine, it is our pleasure to finally release it to the public and we look forward to many others joining us to contribute to this journal in future issues.

Personally, it’s been a delight working with such knowledgeable, skilled and passionate people. We all share the vision of helping others and we hope that vision will continue to be realized as the ex-JW community raises its voices together. JWRecovery Magazine is now available online and for free download at www.jwrecovery.org

Issue #1 (Fall 2009) features articles, interviews and columns by many ex-JWs throughout the community including:

Barbara Anderson
Randy Watters
Don Cameron
Gary Busselman
Brenda Lee
Lance Goller
Brian Stilson
Amy Arnao
…and many more.

Please visit the site and let us know what you think. You can of course download the full, print-friendly PDF version as well as browse the website and comment on the articles and features.

If you have a website, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could help spread the word about the magazine by linking to www.jwrecovery.org

Thanks again for everyone who came together to make this project a reality! We’re already beginning work on the next issue which will be released in December.

So without any further ado,

JWRecovery Magazine

    Moxie,

Let me be the first to congratulate you and your colaborators on a truly quality production. Quite frankly, I’ve not seen any online covering ANY SUBJECT that is as professionally done and pleasing to the eye.

I’ve downloaded my copy and will read it over the next few days. I will put up a brief reference to your site and your new magazine on Ex-JW.com later this week.

What more can I say? Nice job! Very, very nice!

Thank you for this first class publication. I recently left the JW organization after being a faithful follower for many years. The information you are highlighting is extremely helpful to many people. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the next issue.

I just want to say, I have grown up in the JW religion as a child and I suddenly realized that it's all got to do with FEAR! You grow up being told that whoever, even if it's family, that aren't JW they are going to die -- even they have a lovely heart without a religion! I cried because they told us my aunty is going to die, when we told her about how our religion works and I couldn't help but get angry at my aunty for not wanting to join with us! Today, I realize that, joining up to this religion is all about FEAR and the world is going to end in days. But why, I may ask, why do you let little children young as five, suffer from being themselves and letting them grow up to «think for themselves as an individual»? We are all individuals, yet, the JWs take that away from us! I grew with FEAR all around me! I was always being told that the world is a terrible place -- but those JWs don't know what they are missing out on! They are telling us «worldly» people that we are wasting our time getting rich and going to college or whatever it is that we want to our lives...but what they don't know is that, in the JW religion, you are always being told what to do because it is Wrong to think for yourself! WHY is it wrong to think for yourself? Ask them that! If a JW comes knocking on your door, ask them «Why is it wrong to think for ourselves?» I'm letting you know, JW religion isn't the place to be! FEAR is NOT a main subject to grow up with entirely!
