She often used meetings with the elders as punishment, where she would berate us in front of them and they would talk to us about how we had to be obedient. She slapped my sister in the face in front of them and they never blinked. My sister started talking to her guidance counselor at school and my mother decided that highschool made kids "too prone to worldly influences" and homeschooled the youngest two kids.
