So in reference to some earlier posts here, I’m not an apologist for the JWs but rather, I like to keep a balanced view. No, I don’t think JWs butcher their children and eat the brains of people, but at the same time, their eschatology regarding 1914 and “This Generation” has shown me that quite frankly, they are just guessing.

I don’t think ANY religion knows what that passage of scripture refers to; I’ve seen televangelists take a crack at it and refer it to the state of Israel, others have different views, all may be sincere but no one really knows.

So at this point I’ve just stopped studying/attending, etc and am just trying to live a good life. Took me almost a year before I could open a bible again as I fell into agnosticism; just hard to comprehend why God would put a spiritual desire in us but not show us the way to satisfy that desire. Consequently I view it now more as a personal journey vs. one realized through organized religion as no matter what religion, the people at the top have no better insight than the rank and file and quite frankly, until Jesus actually comes back and says “Yep, the bloke on the left had it right, rest of you were wrong, but you all tried so, what the heck, I’ll let you all in; well except for you murderers, thieves, etc”.

They’re genuine in believing in what they believe. They are not bad people, and are very sincere.

I am a bit freaked out about what goes on at the top though, and the elders-idea seems a bit cult-like, as well as the fact that they track the hours you dedicate to Witnessing… So, yes, it’s flawed, but the actual people knocking on doors are mostly GOOD people that feel that they are giving you the truth. They do not set out to spread propaganda. So, be kind. The people at the bottom are really genuine, it’s the organisation itself that may be a bit messed up, but the people within have good hearts, mostly.

Some of it is a bit, but most is tosh!

I have been thinking of ways to bankrupt the congregation; maybe I could steal the money from the box in bits, and they will go bust!

Some vandalism helps too at the kingdom hall, as well as just posting literture through doors to get rid of it, and pretend to knock the doors. Waste hot water, and let the cold in, as well as set the heating and hot water to run all week running up big bills! lol

I place my magazines without knocking the doors if I work on my own, and just stand there pretending I have knocked. Never put money in the box, and get a load of literature to waste!

All I am is a taxi service, but keeps ‘em all happy, but mentally I am out, and take the mickey behind their backs.

Makes up for time wasted on the work, and boring meetings.

Hopefully for assemblies, I have lots of car trouble!

Your example of the movie industry is a classic case of what’s called “Confirmation Bias”. Look it up, educate yourself. While your at it please find the approximate amount of movies released in theaters per year. Then find the percentage of those movies that are apocalyptic in their content. That way we can come to a logical, informed conclusion on whether doomsday movies are “all they’ve been making”. Sorry to let facts and logic get in the way of your fear mongering.
